Regular sunglasses reduce brightness but the glare off the water surface stays — you're essentially looking at a mirror. Polarized lenses have a filter that blocks that horizontal glare specifically, letting light from below the surface pass through. The result is you stop seeing the reflection and start seeing into the water — fish, structure, depth changes, bottom features.
Dark lenses reduce light evenly — useful in bright sun, but they also flatten contrast and make it harder to read the water. Amber tints filter selectively, boosting contrast and depth perception. Edges, shadows, and underwater movement become sharper. Most serious freshwater anglers prefer amber for exactly this reason.
You'll see significantly more than without polarized lenses — structure, depth transitions, movement close to the surface. How much depends on water clarity, depth, and light angle. In clear shallow water the difference is dramatic. In deep or very murky water you'll still benefit from reduced glare, but don't expect to see fish at 20 feet down.
Yes — this is actually where the amber lens performs best. The high-contrast tint enhances visibility in low light better than a dark lens, which in low light just makes everything harder to see.
Yes. You get a certified polarized lens, UV400 protection, a durable TR90 frame, and a complete kit with case and cleaning cloth — at a price that doesn't require you to commit to the hobby before you know how much you'll use them.
The frame is a medium-large wrap style that fits most adult faces. If you have a very narrow or very small face they may feel slightly wide. The TR90 frame has slight flex so it adjusts without breaking.
Yes — kayaking, boating, beach, hiking, driving. The polarization and UV400 protection are useful anywhere there's glare. The amber tint is less ideal for very bright open environments where a darker lens would be more comfortable.
The anti-reflective and hydrophobic coatings add durability but no lens is scratch-proof. Avoid putting them face-down on hard surfaces and use the included case and cloth to keep them in good condition.
Currently BaitClear Horizon comes in one configuration — matte black frame with amber lens. This was a deliberate choice: amber is the most versatile tint for freshwater fishing across changing light conditions.
It means the lenses block 100% of UV rays up to 400 nanometers — both UVA and UVB. Long days on the water with reflected UV off the surface add up. UV400 is the standard you want for any extended outdoor use near water.
